Diversity
The Office of Academic Affairs actively fosters diversity awareness among our faculty and their students. Since 2010, we have expanded responsibilities of our office through an academic appointment of a Diversity Coordinator and the creation of the Academy for Diversity and Inclusive Education (ADIE). The person in this position was honored in 2018 with the Chancellor's Diversity Award for outstanding work that led to IU Southeast's being recognized as a community leader of diversity initiatives. Also, diversity is one of the focus areas for the General Education Program’s Learning Outcomes, as well as a requirement for many degree programs in the major.
A number of Diversity Initiatives and Interdisciplinary Initiatives have been implemented through the Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, with the support of the Associate and Assistant Vice Chancellors, including the following:
Diversity Initiatives
- Office of Study Abroad and Global Awareness (SAGA)
- Japan Center
- Academic Unit Diversity Role:
All Academic Schools play a significant role in supporting diversity, at a school level, departmental level, and a faculty level. The Academic Affairs Faculty Diversity Coordinator also facilitates their efforts, including through a library collection of diversity texts, faculty fellowships offered through ADIE for diversity teaching, research/creativity, or service, and participating with faculty who pursue Study Abroad and Global Awareness, as well as those serving on the IU Southeast Common Experience Committee.
