Reference Area
The first thing you see as you enter the Library is the circular Reference Desk. While Reference Librarians are not in the Library to assist you in person during the Fall 2020 semester, we are available virtually to help you find the most efficient way to get the information you need — and that is probably the most important thing you need to know about the Library.

Archives & Special Collections
As the official repository of IU Southeast, the Library preserves a variety of official and historical documents and records, including Bulletins, reports, manuals, photographs, and a complete run of The Horizon, the IU Southeast student newspaper.
The Library also houses several special collections, including the award-winning Ars Femina archives, and the William Simon Sheet Music Collection. The Indiana University Center for Cultural Resources is a collection of resource kits, each organized to teach a core of 12 universal themes on unity and diversity.

Reference Collections
Behind the Reference Desk is a collection of materials including encyclopedias, dictionaries, collections of facts and statistics, directories, books of quotations, and much more. This is a good place to find a quick fact or a general overview of a subject. Because these resources should be available at all times, these books may not be checked out. The materials are arranged in Library of Congress call number order on the reference shelves, as is the regular book collection.
Periodicals
The IU Southeast Library provides access to thousands of periodicals. These include newspapers, magazines such as Time and Rolling Stone; and scholarly journals such as the Journal of the American Chemical Society. Note that for the Fall 2020 semester, all print copies of our periodicals are housed on the first floor which is closed to the public. Please contact a Reference Librarian if you need access to a print journal downstairs.
