Beginner's Tour
Welcome to the IU Southeast Library! Located adjacent to Hillside Hall and only a few steps from Crestview, the Library's glass front entrance and circular tower can be seen from across campus. When you first walk into the Library, you are on the second floor (the building is built on a hill).
Service Desk
As you enter the main (second) floor of the Library, the first thing you see is the circular Service Desk. Our Service Desk is staffed by peer research assistants, a group of your fellow students who have been trained to help you start your research, find and check out books, and assist with some printing issues. Don't know where to start your research or have a tricky research question? Ask to speak with a librarian, and we'll work with you to find the resources you need.
South Eats Pantry
You can access free non-perishable and refrigerated items on the main floor of the Library (one of several locations on campus).Take what you need, leave what you can. If you are looking for food or personal care items that are unavailable in the Library, let us know or visit Counseling & Psychological Services (UC South, Room 207). Floyd County Library at IU Southeast Collection
Looking for a copy of the latest best seller? Need some leisure reading? Check out the books in the Floyd County Library collection, available on the main floor display shelves. More information about our partnership with the Floyd County Library is available here.
Adaptive Technology Center (LB208)
The Adaptive Technology Center (ATC) is located on the main floor of the Library. The purpose of the ATC at the Indiana University Southeast Library is to help people with disabilities of all ages throughout the community enhance their lives and increase their independence and productivity through the use of adaptive technology.

Library Instruction Lab (LB235)
The Library Instruction Lab includes student computers and an instructor's station and is located on the second floor (LB235). The instruction lab is available as a public computer lab when it is not being used for instruction. To reserve LB235 for library instruction, please contact Maria Accardi, Coordinator of Library Instruction, maccardi@iu.edu.
ILTE: The Institute for Teaching and Learning Excellence (LB219)
The ILTE is a resource center for IU Southeast faculty at all stages of their careers. The ILTE Office is located on the main floor of the Library (LB219). ILTE also provides support for the Academic Media Production Space, a faculty recording facility with professional technology for producing instructional multimedia content.
Computer Workstations
Computers are located throughout the library for both individual and group use. There are two collaborative screen-sharing stations on the second (main) floor of the library and all group study rooms are equipped with flat screen TVs connected to computers, with the ability to connect laptops as well. (Additional information about the technology available in group study rooms is available on our Room Reservations. Carrels with computers on the 1st and 3rd floors provide individual quiet areas to work.
Third Floor Book Stacks
The stacks (bookshelves) on the third floor hold the books in the Library's collection that can be checked out. These books are arranged by Library of Congress call numbers. You may retrieve these books and use them in the Library or take them downstairs for checkout.
IQ-Wall
Located on the third floor of the Library, the IQ-Wall is a 12-screen video wall connected to a desktop workstation with inputs for your personal devices. When not scheduled for an event, the IQ-Wall is open for unscheduled walk up use by faculty, staff, and students. However, if you’d like to plan an event at the IQ-Wall, please email libhelp@iu.edu or ask to speak with a librarian at the Library Service Desk, in person or by phone (812) 941-2485. Center for Cultural Resources
The Center for Cultural Resources is located on the first floor of the Library. The Center has a collection of resource kits, each organized to teach a core of 12 universal themes on unity and diversity. Many of the kits have an international focus on a particular geographic region or individual country, others focus on a particular time period or ethnic group, e.g. the Amish. The kits are available for checkout after receiving a brief orientation and borrower's card. For more information on orientations or reserving a kit, please e-mail ccr@iu.edu.
First Floor Periodical Stacks
On the bottom (first) floor you will find issues of periodicals arranged on the shelves alphabetically by the title of the magazine or journal. These include magazines such as Time and Rolling Stone and scholarly journals such as the Journal of the American Chemical Society. Note that current issues of periodicals (including our newspapers) are on the main (second) floor.
You can browse or search for a specific periodical using our Find full-text Journals A-Z List. You can also search IUCAT for the title of a periodical to see if it is available in the library or electronically.
Study Areas
The IU Southeast Library is the study center of the campus. With a variety of study environments, you can choose a quiet corner on the first floor, or a busy lounge on the main floor. Seating types include private carrels, traditional tables and chairs, and soft seating areas distributed throughout the library. If you need a quiet place to study, the first floor of the Library is reserved as a Quiet Study area. If you need to work on a group project or study as a group, there are also group study rooms available to reserve on the first and third floors.
Group Study Rooms
The first and third levels of the Library are home to a series of enclosed group study rooms, each equipped with a conference table, a wall mounted large screen TV, a permanently installed PC with webcam, a bring your own device (BYOD) panel, a whiteboard, and wireless access.
