Joy of Teaching Brown Bag Series
Mission Statement
Why do we choose to teach? Did you imagine stepping into a classroom filled with eager students? Did you imagine changing lives for the better? Did you look forward to conversations and connections with other teachers? Even with the positive motivations and joys in our work, teaching can be demanding; we can sometimes get bogged down by faculty life. Committee work or research, for example, can lessen the pleasure of working with students. When we experience burnout, rekindling the joy of teaching through sharing our most positive moments with colleagues can be just the thing to help us through a rough day.
What memorable classroom story would you like to tell? What special expertise helped you work in a surprising way with learners? What “a-ha!” insight from a student helped you through a difficult teaching time? The ILTE’s Joy of Teaching brownbag series is an opportunity for faculty to meet, mingle, and share their joy of teaching with one another.
Goals
- Provide a space for faculty to share successes and lessons learned about teaching, working with students, and classroom experiences.
- Promote excellence in teaching by sharing best practices in learning and teaching with faculty across disciplines.
- Develop a faculty community that is centered on best practices in learning and teaching, with a special focus on positive moments and joyful stories/topics.
