Are you a high school teacher looking to boost your qualifications to teach reading?

Our M.S. Ed. program offers a concentration in reading that provides coursework for high school teachers seeking to enhance their knowledge and understanding of this field in order to better address the needs of their students in this critical learning area.

The concentration consists of 30 hours of coursework.

It meets the required accreditation outcomes, prepares candidates with required research skills, guarantees that curriculum needs are met and adds the recognition of a concentration in reading to the M.S.Ed. degree.

Master's Degrees
Graduate Reading License Program

Important NEW Information for Rank (Kentucky) or Plus 30 (Indiana) Changes to the License.

The MS degrees from IU Southeast were formerly 36 hours (as noted in the screencast for the Reading License Program), but most are now 30. Students should pay close attention to the hours needed to gain the Rank Change for Kentucky. If you recently graduated with a 30-hour Master of Education degree, Kentucky teachers will now need 30 additional hours to reach Rank 1. Indiana teachers still need 30 additional hours for the Plus 30. (After the 24-hour license program courses, the Coordinator of Reading and/or the License Advisor will help determine additional courses, if needed.)

See the online application for more information. Contact our Records Specialist, Tracy Stracener with questions regarding applications. The application process has been streamlined, so you no longer need a letter of recommendation.

We hope to see you at IU Southeast pursuing further work in literacy!
