At IUS, you can network with other future early childhood educators in your cohort, gaining support as you pursue your license. You'll be placed in real classrooms early on in your program to apply theoretical knowledge to hands-on experiences. Our evening classes allow you spend time during the school day getting teaching experience, making your transition to the classroom smoother.

Required courses

The Early Childhood Transition to Teaching licensure program is a 24-credit program that includes the following sequence of courses, which differs between the fall and spring cohorts.

Fall cohort

Fall: 1st semester for fall cohort (7 credit hours)
  • EDUC-M500 – Integrated Professional Seminar (1 cr.)
  • EDUC-E535 – Foundations in Elementary Education (3 cr.)
  • EDUC-E514 – Lang. Arts/Reading (3 cr.)
Spring: 2nd semester for fall cohort (6 credit hours)
  • EDUC-E516 – ELA/Reading (3 cr.)
  • EDUC-E508 – Early Childhood (3 cr.) *Mandatory
Summer: 3rd semester for fall cohort (9 credit hours)
  • EDUC-K500 – Special Education Workshop (2 cr.)
  • EDUC-N523 – Math Foundations and Methods (3 cr.)
  • EDUC-E513 – Science and Technology Workshop (2 cr.)
  • EDUC-E516 – Social Studies Workshop (2 cr.)
