M.S.Ed. Secondary Education Concentrations
Students may choose to add a concentration to their master's degree in an area of specialization. A concentration may also lead to an additional licensing area.
Biology
The M.S.Ed. degree with Biology concentration is a 30-credit-hour program. Coursework may be chosen from a variety of areas including cell biology, molecular genetics, local flora, pharmacology, and more. Chemistry

Composition Studies
The M.S.Ed. degree with Composition Studies concentration is a 36-credit-hour program focusing on the art of writing and the teaching of writing. This concentration includes the coursework necessary to meet dual credit teaching requirements.
Educational Leadership
This concentration prepares you to take on leadership roles in your school, district, or other educational organization by focusing on the specific challenges the next generation of education leaders will face. The Educational Leadership concentration also includes the coursework necessary for completing a K-12 building-level administrator's license (principal's license). The M.S.Ed. degree with Educational Leadership concentration is a 36-credit-hour program.
English
The M.S.Ed. degree with English concentration is a 36-credit-hour program. Courses address a wide range of study of English including literature, rhetoric, and writing. This concentration includes the coursework necessary to meet dual credit teaching requirements.
ENL/ESL: Teaching English Language Learners
This concentration prepares educators to teach English to speakers of other languages. The ENL/ESL concentration includes the coursework necessary for a P-12 license addition in teaching English as a New Language. It also allows Indiana teachers to meet qualifications for serving as "EL teacher of record." The M.S.Ed. degree with ENL/ESL concentration is a 30-credit-hour program.
Gifted and Talented
This concentration prepares educators to teach gifted and talented and high ability students. The Gifted and Talented concentration also includes the coursework necessary for a license addition in teaching High Ability/Gifted and Talented. History
The M.S.Ed. degree with History concentration is a 30-credit-hour program. The coursework focuses on teaching the advanced methods and skills of historians through classes on the modern world with special courses in U.S., European, Latin American and Chinese history. This concentration includes the coursework necessary to meet dual credit teaching requirements.
Language & Literature
The M.S.Ed. degree with Language and Literature concentration is a 36-credit-hour program. Coursework for this concentration focuses on writing and composition as well as the history of the English language. This concentration includes the coursework necessary to meet dual credit teaching requirements.
Literature
The M.S.Ed. degree with Literature concentration is a 36-credit-hour program. This concentration enhances the student’s understanding of literature and can serve as a stepping stone for doctoral studies in literature. This concentration includes the coursework necessary to meet dual credit teaching requirements.
Mathematics
The M.S.Ed. degree with Mathematics concentration is a 30-credit-hour program. The coursework focuses on teaching advanced methods and skills in mathematics through special courses in areas such as analysis, algebra, geometry, application, and statistics. This concentration includes the coursework necessary to meet dual credit teaching requirements.
Music
This concentration provides 30 hours of graduate-level coursework for in-depth knowledge of music educational content, as well an understanding of theories relating to pedagogy and learning. A significant portion of graduate coursework may be taken as applied study, ie. instrumental or vocal lessons.
Psychology
The M.S.Ed. degree with Psychology concentration is a 36-credit-hour program. This concentration focuses on teaching advanced methods and skills in psychology through special courses in developmental psychology, organizational psychology, group behavior, and more. This concentration includes the coursework necessary to meet dual credit teaching requirements.
Reading
This concentration prepares educators to expand their expertise in literacy and to serve as reading coaches. The concentration also includes the coursework necessary for a P-12 license addition in Reading. The M.S.Ed. degree with Reading concentration is a 30-credit-hour program.
Special Education
This concentration prepares educators to address the needs of students with mental, emotional, learning and other differences or disabilities. The concentration also includes the coursework necessary for a P-12 license addition Exceptional Needs, Mild Intervention. The M.S.Ed. degree with Special Education concentration is a 39-credit-hour program.
Technology
This concentration prepares educators to integrate technology into the classroom, with classes ranging from computer-based teaching methods to workshops in the use of multimedia in instructional design. The concentration also includes the coursework necessary for a P-12 license addition Computer Education. The M.S.Ed. degree with Technology concentration is a 36-credit-hour program.
