At IU Southeast, drawing is considered one of the most vital and important skills for student artists to develop. Drawing students work with a variety of observational subjects, including: still life, architectural interior space, exterior landscape, as well as providing significant opportunities for students to draw from life and develop a skillful anatomy based approach to drawing the human figure. In addition to working from direct observation, students in the Fine Arts program at IU Southeast explore drawing as a tool for invention, conceptualization, and self-directed ideation and project development. The drawing curriculum at IU Southeast also affords students an opportunity to investigate the depth and breadth of both traditional and non-traditional drawing materials.

The drawing studio at IU Southeast supports each student's creative process by providing space, equipment and materials both inside and outside of class time. Students have 24 hour studio access. The 1136 sq ft drawing studio is a well-lit space, large north-facing windows provide abundant natural daylight and adjustable studio track lighting provide control and flexibility. This studio is equipped with 20 durable metal easels, horizontal shelves for storing flat works, floor to ceiling exhibition and presentation surfaces. The studio's amble open floor space allows drawing students to work from small to large scale and in a variety of media. Individual studio spaces are available to students majoring in drawing in their senior year. The drawing studio has an iMac computer station with an overhead digital projector available for student and faculty use. Drawing students have access to digital drawing tools including: Wacom Cintiq tablets, Wacom Bamboo tablets.

Capacity enrollments for both individual and combined courses are limited to sixteen students. Studio fees support the purchase of high quality large format drawing paper (including: Stonehenge, Arches, Yupo, Mylar, Reeves BFK), drawing boards, inks, primers, specialized drawing materials, cleaning supplies, and shared tools.
