Bachelor of Arts - Art History Concentration

The art history program at IU Southeast provides students training to critically analyze, explore, and understand world history, anthropology, religion, psychology, sociology, politics and culture through the study of western and non-western visual art. Students not only gain an understanding of both western and non-western art, they are also educated in the history and methodology of the discipline through the senior seminar course. Art history students have the opportunity to engage with local arts professionals, complete internships at local museums and galleries, as well as publish and present their research within the IU community and beyond. The art history program also offers a Research Paper Prize for outstanding research papers written in our courses each spring term. A degree in art history prepares students for graduate study as well as for positions in arts administration for museums, galleries, and other community arts organizations. Training in art history leads to the development of critical thinking skills that also provide students preparation for careers beyond the arts—such as business, communication, education, government, and law.
