Digital Art
The Digital Art concentration at IU Southeast provides students with the instruction, equipment and resources to communicate creatively with established and evolving approaches, including traditional and experimental film and video, photography, audio production, animation, web design, projection mapping, and motion based interactivity. An emphasis on industry-standard hardware and software skill development is balanced with in-depth examination of the meaning of still, moving, and interactive images in contemporary culture and the individualized pursuit of artistic expression. By combining art and technology, students gain the practical and critical thinking skills needed to be successful artists, visual communicators and cultural producers.
Students with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Digital Art pursue careers in fine art and multimedia production. Digital Arts majors and alumni have been included in international and national film festivals, started local commercial and creative photography and videography businesses, exhibited in local and regional art exhibitions, and been accepted to prestigious Masters of Fine Art graduate programs.
Digital Art courses are taught in state-of-the-art facilities, including two Macintosh labs and a professional photo/video/animation lighting studio (the Time-Space). Students have access to discounted large format printing, and can check out industry standard photo, video, and audio equipment from the Fine Art Gear Lab, including full frame DSLR cameras with several fixed and zoom lens options, 4k production cameras, tri-pods and steady cam stabilization systems, professional microphones and audio recorders, high end digital drawing tablets, and more. In addition, all IU Southeast students are able to access Adobe Creative Cloud at any computer on campus or on their personal laptops for free, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Animate, Illustrator, and more.
