Students who want to pursue a nursing degree at IU Southeast must apply to their desired program using the following processes.
Apply to IU Southeast Nursing
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Prepare for a fulfilling career in an in-demand field through our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Students leave our cutting-edge program with jobs in hand at well-respected hospitals and clinics.
- Apply to IU Southeast.
- Complete all pre-nursing requirements with a grade of "C" or higher. We encourage dual and AP credit and will apply as many transfer credits toward pre-nursing courses as we are able.
- Submit your application to the Nursing program through the website once all pre-nursing requirements are met. Students must have a minimum 2.7 GPA in pre-nursing courses (excluding First Year Seminar and open elective). The application deadline is always in February. Contact the School of Nursing with any questions you have about the deadline or any other aspects of the application.
- Take the HESI Admission Assessment Exam online in the Student Success Center on campus in March of the year you apply. There are no minimum scores required. Applicants may take the HESI only once. The cost is $50.
- Students are scored for admission according to the following factors:
- GPA from pre-nursing courses excluding First Year Seminar and open elective: 75% of score
- HESI reading comprehension results: 15% of score
- HESI math results: 10% of score
- The top 56 applicants are offered conditional admission spots in May.
- Once accepted, complete the following:
- Annual background check, TB skin test, 10-panel drug screen
- Submit a copy of BLS CPR and vaccine and immunization records to the School of Nursing
RN to BSN
Take the knowledge and experience you have and turn it into a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Choose our top-notch, flexible program designed to meet the needs of busy working Registered Nurses.
- Apply to IU Southeast.
- Submit copies of the following to the School of Nursing:
- Indiana nursing license
- Immunizations
- Basic Life Support certification
- Criminal background check
- RN students who have successfully completed general-education requirements and maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA and 2.7 nursing GPA are eligible to begin the BSN program. Admission GPA is based on all completed courses required for the BSN degree, including transfer courses accepted and applied to required general-education credit hours.
- Apply for admission through IU Online. To be eligible to take online nursing classes, the RN student must have graduated from an ACEN accredited school of nursing.
- Submit copies of the following:
- Proof of licensure in the state of practice
- Basic Life Support CPR certification
- Background check
- Admission GPA must be 2.5 cumulative and 2.7 in nursing GPA. Admission GPA is based on all completed courses required for the BSN degree, including transfer courses accepted and applied to required general-education credit hours.
- Students can take nursing classes in the online program while still having 9 credits of general education needed. There is no time limit for general-education classes in the RN to BSN program.

Master of Science in Nursing
Advance your nursing career with a Master of Science in Nursing. Choose between our Nursing Administration and Nursing Education tracks to specialize in the skills you need move ahead in your field.
Admission to the Master of Science in Nursing program requires approval by the faculty and is based on the applicant’s qualifications. Applicants are evaluated based on their grade point average, statement of professional aspirations, official transcripts, references, resume, and, in some cases, a personal interview. Acceptance into the program is competitive.
Minimum requirements:
- Graduation from a nationally accredited nursing baccalaureate program with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Valid, unencumbered RN license.
- Two years of experience as an RN (preferred) or currently working as an RN.
- Completion of an undergraduate statistics course with a grade of C or better.
- Agreement to the essential abilities policy of the School of Nursing. The policy states that students must demonstrate essential abilities in a variety of areas (judgment, neurological function, emotional coping skills, intellectual/conceptual skills, and other behavioral attributes) as well as meeting all progression criteria.
Please submit the following:
- Personal Statement describing and explaining professional career goals as an advanced-practice nurse.
- Two professional references.
- CV/Resume.
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Please have transcripts sent to: admissions@iu.edu.
Note: GRE testing is not required.
All applicants must complete, or have completed, a criminal background check within the past 12 months.
Applicants whose native language is not English must take the internet-based version of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), which has a speaking portion. International students must apply through the Indiana University Southeast Office of Admissions via the International Students website.
