Accreditation

We are dedicated to the goal of providing a high quality, accessible business education. As evidence of our success in meeting these goals, The IU Southeast School of Business is accredited by AACSB International. AACSB-accreditation is a benchmark of quality recognized worldwide. Below we’ll explain why we’re proud of this accomplishment and, more importantly, why you should care.

As of July 2012, only 655 schools of business, or less than 5% worldwide, have earned this distinguished hallmark of excellence in management education. In the Greater Louisville area only three schools of business have attained this prestigious accreditation. To maintain accreditation a business program must undergo a rigorous internal review every five years, at which the program must demonstrate its continued commitment to the 21 quality standards relating to faculty qualification, strategic management of resources, interactions of faculty and students, as well as a commitment to continuous improvement and achievement of learning goals in degree programs. Visit the AACSB website for information on the global distribution of accredited programs.

Obtaining, and maintaining AACSB Accreditation takes a long-term commitment to excellence in business education. “It takes a great deal of self-evaluation and determination to earn and maintain AACSB Accreditation,” said Jerry Trapnell, vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. “Schools not only must meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty, and staff must make a commitment to ongoing improvement to ensure continued delivery of high-quality education to students.”

Why AACSB-Accreditation Matters

AACSB International has a wealth of statistics and other information that demonstrate a marked quality advantage for AACSB-accredited business programs. A few reasons of relevance:

  1. To Students. It turns out that businesses know which schools produce the kind of graduates they want. Many top, global corporations only recruit from AACSB-accredited schools. Also, AACSB-accredited school graduates are offered better, more competitive salaries.
  2. To Parents. AACSB-accreditation is a guarantee of quality. It ensures that your student will be taught everything needed from communication skills to financial reporting. It also means that the school has to have qualified and adequate faculty and staff to successfully deliver its programs.
  3. To Businesses. Obtaining and maintaining AACSB-accreditation ensures a business program has an ongoing process of continuous improvement in their programs. It means the schools are able to recruit and retain the highest quality faculty. It means the school has to have assessment measures to assure student learning. It means the school has to update its curriculum to meet the needs of today’s businesses. In all, these four things mean a better graduate, a better recruit for your firm, and a better investment of any educational reimbursement you provide your employees.
