What is a Concentration?
A "concentration" is simply a specific area of study. Since music is such a diverse discipline, students at IU Southeast have the opportunity to pursue a concentration that best develops his/her interests and skills. Each degree concentration has its own set of requirements in addition to those required by the university for the B. A. degree or the B. S. degree. Students must declare an intended concentration and track prior to auditioning to become a music major. Students also have the opportunity to pursue two concentrations within the B. A. in music degree.
Bachelor of Science in Music Concentrations
All of the concentrations/tracks for the Bachelor of Science program in music require auditions. Acceptance into the Music program is based on the audition and other requirements. Contact the Music Department for more detailed audition information.
Audio Production
The B.S. in Music/Audio Production incorporates and prepares students for work in the sound recording and production industry with a more focused approach than the B.A. in Music/Music Industry - Sound Engineering and is responsive to industry demands for more specific and intensive educational background in the discipline

Music Business
Music and Business are natural partners in the world beyond academia. Performing arts organizations often function as small businesses requiring those involved to have fundamental skills in marketing, accounting, business law, and grant writing. Likewise, the arts and entertainment industry provides opportunities to the business minded person with an interest in retail, artist management, or the recording industry fields. The Music Business track coordinates the requirements for the B.S. degree in music with basic studies in the music industry, music law, marketing, and business law.

Music Education - Instrumental / General Music
The Music Education curriculum is designed to prepare students for licensing in Indiana and Kentucky to teach music at all levels of education from K-12 (also known as P-12). Students interested in band and orchestra should enroll in the Instrumental and General Music track.
Music Education - Vocal/ General Music
The Music Education curriculum is designed to prepare students for licensing in Indiana and Kentucky to teach music at all levels of education from K-12 (also known as P-12). Students interested in vocal/choral music should enroll in the Vocal and General Music track.

Music Composition - Composition for the Concert Stage
The Composition for the Concert Stage track of the Music Composition concentration is designed to give the creative student the skills necessary to analyze, arrange, and compose works for the concert stage (i.e. chamber, orchestra, opera, and ballet). The degree stresses not only the creative aspect of music composition but also incorporates technology and performing areas of music as well.
Music Composition - Film and Media
The Film and Media track is specifically geared towards students interested in writing music for film and other media environments such as video games and television.

Music Industry - Sound Engineering
The Sound Engineering track within the Music Industry concentration at Indiana University Southeast is designed to give students a well-rounded education in liberal arts courses, while exposing them to practical, theoretical, and creative applications of sound engineering in the field of music.

Performance
The Performance concentration at IU Southeast is intended for those students who wish to focus their studies on a particular instrument (any orchestral of band instrument, piano, organ, guitar) or voice. The curriculum stresses the development of the student's technique and musicianship, ensemble dynamics, building a fundamental knowledge of his/her repertoire, and acquisition of practical pedagogical techniques.
