Auditioning and interviewing for the Music Department
All prospective students must complete an application for admission and scholarship.
Audition Requirements
All students applying for admission to the Music Department must complete a performance audition regardless of the student's intended degree concentration. However, the performance standards and requirements do vary depending on which concentration the student intends to pursue.
Music Education
- Performance of 2 contrasting works for your instrument or voice.
- Memorization is encouraged but not required.
- Accompaniment is required for vocal solos and optional for instrumental solos. You may arrange for you own pianist or use a pre-recorded accompaniment. (Include links to accompaniment tracks in your application. Pre-recorded accompaniment tracks must not include the solo part).
- Conversation with Music Faculty regarding your interest in becoming a music educator.
Music Performance
- Performance of 2 contrasting works for your instrument/voice.
- Memorization is encouraged but not required.
- Accompaniment is required for vocal solos and optional for instrumental solos. You may arrange for you own pianist or use a pre-recorded accompaniment. (Include links to accompaniment tracks in your application. Pre-recorded accompaniment tracks must not include the solo part).
Music Composition
- Portfolio of 1 or more of your compositions.
- Performance of 1 work for your primary instrument or voice.
- Memorization is encouraged but not required.
- Accompaniment is required for vocal solos and optional for instrumental solos. You may arrange for you own pianist or use a pre-recorded accompaniment. (Include links to accompaniment tracks in your application. Pre-recorded accompaniment tracks must not include the solo part).
- Conversation with music faculty about your submitted composition.
Audio and Stage Production
- Portfolio of 1 or more of works you have recorded/engineered/created
- Performance of 1 work on your primary instrument/voice. OR Presentation and discussion of a work from your portfolio.
- Memorization is encouraged but not required.
- Accompaniment is required for vocal solos and optional for instrumental solos. You may arrange for you own pianist or use a pre-recorded accompaniment. (Include links to accompaniment tracks in your application. Pre-recorded accompaniment tracks must not include the solo part).
