Graduating students are invited to be the Class Representative and speak at the commencement ceremony. The Class Representative shares their reflections and motivating words with an audience of graduates and their supporters. Speeches are 3-5 minutes long, or about 500 words. If chosen you will get help with editing and rehearsing. You will also be invited to sit on stage during the commencement ceremony.
Eligibility Criteria
- Be an IU Southeast student graduating in May 2025, summer 2025, or who has already graduated in December 2024.
- Be in good academic standing with a history of demonstrated campus or community involvement. Academic standing and adherence to student conduct expectations will be confirmed.
- Complete the online application and submit written essay.

Selection Process
Below is the selection process for the Commencement Class Representative.
- A committee consisting of a representative from University Relations, the Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement, and the Dean of Students will review the written application and video submission and make a recommendation to the Chancellor for approval.
- Remaining applicants will be notified by the committee that they have not been chosen as the Class Representative.
- The Class Representative selected will receive guidance from the University Relations team on final preparations and delivery of their commencement day speech.
