Student Commencement Speaker Application

Eligibility Criteria

• Must be a member of the graduating class he/she plans to address
• Available to speak at Commencement
• Unblemished citizenship/conduct record
• Consistent academic excellence in 60 credit hours of enrollment at IU & affiliates
• Current Cumulative GPA must be a minimum of 3.0
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• No outstanding bursar fees owed
• Positive role model
• Competent in public speaking
• Exceptional oratorical skills
• Positive attitude and enthusiasm

Below is the selection process for the Commencement Class Representative.

• A committee consisting of a representative from the University Relations team, VC for Student Engagement, and Dean of Student Life will review the applications and make a recommendation to the Chancellor.
• The Selection Committee will rank the candidates. The ranked number one candidate will be determined as the finalist.
• If the candidate is recommended, then the recommendation will be presented to the Chancellor for approval.
• If the candidate is not recommended, the Selection Committee will be notified and the number two ranked applicant will be brought forward.
• The Chancellor shall have the final recommendation for Class Representative.
• Remaining applicants will be notified by the committee that they have not been chosen as the Class Representative.
• The Class Representative selected will receive guidance from University Communications on final preparations and delivery of his/her commencement day speech.
