Direct to PharmD process for high school seniors

With the Direct to PharmD program, Indiana University Southeast (IU Southeast) and Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (SU COPHS) in Louisville provides you with a fast track to a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and earning a pharmacist’s salary in as little as five years. High school seniors admitted to the program complete their pre-pharmacy coursework and undergraduate degree at IU Southeast, and their PharmD at Sullivan University.

Admission criteria and eligibility

Admissions
Rolling Admissions Policy

Preferred
Weighted High School GPA of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 Scale

Additional criteria considered

  • Rigor of academic curriculum
    Completing high school coursework that is challenging will be positively viewed by the Admissions Committee. Upper-level math and sciences courses and successful completion of advanced placement, dual credit, and honors courses will demonstrate to the committee that you are willing to academically challenge yourself.
  • Extracurricular activities
    Successfully balancing high school academic responsibilities with extracurricular activities will be viewed favorably by the Admissions Committee.
  • Personal essay
    You’ll be asked to submit a 500- 750 word personal essay explaining what has motivated you to become a pharmacist.
  • Interview
    You will be invited to participate in an interview with the Direct to PharmD Admissions Committee. The committee is comprised of faculty, administrators, and admissions staff from IU Southeast and SU COPHS.
  • High school academic updates
    A mid-semester grade and final senior year transcript review will be conducted for all conditionally admitted students.
  • SAT or ACT scores
    Scores will be reviewed, if available. The Admissions Committee reserves the right to request your test scores to make a more informed decision.
  • Background check
    A national criminal background check will be required prior to admittance into the Direct to PharmD program. A negative result at any point during the undergraduate portion of the Direct to PharmD program may prevent you from continuing in the program.

Advising for Pre-Pharmacy

To make sure you remain on track, you’ll meet each semester with your assigned Natural Sciences Advisor. At least once per year, you’ll meet with the Pre-Pharmacy Advisor at IU Southeast and a Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Admission Advisor to stay on target with the program and get important updates.
