About Greek Life
Social fraternities and sororities have been in partnership with Indiana University since 1845. Although much has changed over the years, the core values of these organizations – friendship, scholarship, leadership, and service – have remained the same. At IU, there are over 5,000 students and 65 organizations involved in the fraternity and sorority experience each year. These values-based organizations seek to provide their members with opportunities to lead, serve, build positive relationships, and grow intellectually. Commitment to personal and organizational excellence is the cornerstone of the Indiana University fraternity and sorority experience.
All fraternities and sororities at IU are members of one of four councils: : Interfraternity Council (IFC), Panhellenic Council (PHC), Multicultural Greek Council (MCGC), and National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). Although the councils pride themselves on individuality, all four recognize common values and principles and instill in their membership the importance of maintaining high moral, social, and intellectual standards.
