Make an impact in an inclusive environment

In today's diverse educational landscape, the need for well-prepared, quality teachers in special education has never been more critical.

Our Bachelor of Science in Education (BSED) in Special Education program at IU Southeast is dedicated to equipping future educators with the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to effectively teach and support students with special needs.

Whether it's through distinct teaching techniques, behavior management, or collaborative practices with families and other professionals, our teachers are ready to foster an inclusive and equitable learning experience for all students.

Quality preparation for unique challenges

The BSED in Special Education at IUS leads to an Indiana teaching license with a P-12 Indiana Mild Intervention certification or a Kentucky Learning and Behavior Disorders certification.

This license qualifies the holder to teach elementary and secondary education students who have one or more of the following disabilities: learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, mild or moderate mental disabilities, orthopedic impairments, other health impairments, autism spectrum disorder, or traumatic brain injury.

Unique students, unique approaches

Every student is unique, and this is especially true for students in special education.

The IUS BSEd program trains future teachers to recognize and celebrate the individual strengths and challenges of each student. You'll participate in clinical experiences at the preschool, elementary, and secondary levels before you student teach, giving you a clear understanding of a broad range of classroom environments.

By learning to create inclusive and supportive classroom environments, our graduates are prepared to meet the diverse needs of their students.
