IU Southeast Writing Contest
The IU Southeast Writing contest is an annual competition sponsored by the English Department with the assistance of The Writing Center. The deadline for submissions is usually September 30 and is open to all undergraduates and graduate students who are currently attending, or attended the previous spring or summer.
The contest is judged blindly by professional writers, that is, no names appear with the submissions once the student has filled out the submission form.
Students may submit in the following genres:
- Poetry, Flash Fiction (limit: 1000 words)
- Fiction (Short Story, limit: 7500 words)
- Creative Nonfiction (limit: 7500 words)
- Research/Report (limit: 7500 words)
Winners receive a certificate and cash prizes for 1st Place ($50), 2nd Place ($25), 3rd Place ($10), and Honorable Mention (certificate) in each category.
The English Department Gala celebration to honor the winners is held the last week of classes.
