Indiana's 21st Century Scholars Program began in 1990 to ensure that every Hoosier student can afford the opportunity provided by a college degree. Today, eligible students who keep the Scholar Pledge to excellence in school and life receive a Scholarship to help pay for their college education.

ScholarCorps members serve on campuses around the state to assist 21st Century Scholars in success and completion efforts. They provide one-on-one support to Scholars dealing with academic, financial and social questions or issues. 21st Century Scholars can reach out to their ScholarCorps member with questions or issues that may affect their scholarship.

Current Scholar Support Specialist

Breanna Doss (2021-2022)

After spending three years as a 21st Century Scholar at IU Southeast, I wanted to give back to the program that allowed me to be there. My senior year I began serving as the AmeriCorps Member for IU Southeast. My goal for my term was to help the scholars feel supported in whatever goals they wanted to accomplish throughout college. I know that being a scholar comes with some unique challenges but I also wanted to highlight the things that set scholars apart and gave them an advantage.

During my time serving 21st Century Scholars, I was able to continue the tradition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service where we had students from all over campus serve nonprofits in our area. I also participated in GearUp events where I met many future Grenadier Scholars. Other social events that took place were trips to IU Bloomington football and basketball games.

I am thankful for the program not only as a recipient of the scholarship but for the opportunity to guide students that I could really relate to. My time as a ScholarCorps Member at IU Southeast has allowed me to now pursue my dream of becoming an Occupational Therapist. I am currently enrolled in the Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program at IUPUI and I have been using the skills I developed as a scholar and throughout my service to succeed in this program.
