Biography
Joseph Krementz was born in Germany and came to the United States in 1851. He lived in New Albany, Indiana, and Louisville, Kentucky. He was an older member of the Wonderland Way Art Club and influenced many younger members. An accomplished artist, he was well known for his wonderful portrait and landscape work. He exhibited with James L. Russell starting in 1914 and also at the Speed Museum.
Krementz was also well-known as a photographer, operating studios in both New Albany and Louisville. His original negatives depict scenes in both cities - most significantly are the earliest known photographs of the Louisville Water Company and the Louisville wharf.
