Biography
Harvey Joiner was born in Charlestown, Indiana. Joiner is perhaps the most well-known and most collected artist in Southern Indiana during the late 19th and 20th centuries. He showed artistic capability at an early age, concentrating on portraits for the first twenty years of his career. Joiner later became famous for woodland scenes, especially of beech trees, and exhibited all over the world. His work is noted for its unique use of light and shadow, recalling the great French landscape artists of the 19th century.
Joiner married Helen Cain and established a home in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and ran a studio in Louisville, Kentucky.
