Biography

Carl Lotick was a native of Harrison County, Indiana, and came from a German immigrant farming family. It is said Lotick changed the spelling of his family name from Lottich as a reaction to the anti-German feeling during World War I.

Lotick received his early training at the Chicago Art Institute and later became a commercial artist. He worked at the Indianapolis Star as an illustrator. He is known to have developed the most distinctive palette in the Wonderland Way Club. Lotick was one of six artists in the first Art Shop exhibition of New Albany painters in 1914. He is said to have had exhibits in St. Louis, Chicago and Louisville. He retired to New Albany, Indiana, in the 1940s.
