Plan progress: Year 1
Indiana University President Pamela Whitten united the university in a strategic planning effort that sets a bold, seven-year vision for IU in its third century.
For over 80 years, since 1941, Indiana University Southeast has been committed to student success and expanding the number of degree earners in Southern Indiana and the counties surrounding Louisville in Kentucky. Historically, our commitment to student success has meant making the expense of college manageable, providing flexible scheduling and modalities to meet students’ needs, and providing student centered instruction and services. By 2030, we will expand our impact to better meet the needs of our region, transform IU Southeast into a “student ready” university, and become a leader in our region for undergraduate research.
In the next seven years, we envision creating an IU Southeast that is even more student centered and responsive. We aim to be recognized as an inclusive, student-centered university that inspires lifelong learning. Our academic programs and services will be tailored to the holistic student experience, providing wraparound support and services to meet students’ needs. We will enliven the academic experience, focusing on student belonging and dynamic and engaged classroom experiences, with an emphasis on community building, applied experiences, and advancing student research and creativity.
At the center of IU Southeast’s commitment to research are faculty experts who train the next generation of thinkers and leaders to engage in hands on learning in research and creative projects. Our campus will be a center for student research and creative enterprise, while also deepening our faculty’s impact on the scholarship of teaching and learning, as well as community-based research. We will grow our scholarship – advancing externally sponsored research and service to the state(s), as well as publications, exhibitions, and performances.
IU Southeast will also expand our impact in the community. Regional in focus, global in scope, we will partner with our communities to meet academic, cultural, economic, and environmental needs for a sustainable future. We will leverage our expertise and resources to increase engagement with local issues. Delivering on the real-time needs of employers and non-profits for information and well-trained employees, we will engage more consistently and deeply with local and global organizations.
