At IU Southeast, you can take your non-education bachelor’s degree and turn that into a teaching license with alternative teaching licensure. Put your passion for education into action with our Transition to Teaching program.

Fast track your path to becoming a teacher

Do you hold a bachelor’s degree in a field other than teacher education, but would like to teach in preschool or K-12 schools? After only a year of coursework, you could earn your teaching license through our fast-track pathway to licensure. Our Transition to Teaching program prepares students to pass their teaching license examination and become a teacher.

IU Southeast offers courses and teaching experiences that fit your schedule. Our Transition to Teaching programs consist of a combination of evening classes, professional seminars, and in-school teaching. Enroll in an average of 2-3 courses at a time, leaving time for your job and family.

The Elementary, Early Childhood, and Special Education programs include three semesters of coursework followed by student teaching for a total of 24 credit hours. For qualified bachelor degree holders, the Secondary Education program includes just two semesters of coursework plus student teaching, totaling 18 credit hours.
