Biography



Paul Plaschke was born in Berlin, Germany, but his family moved to New Jersey in 1884. He is an achieved political cartoonist.

Plaschke studied drawing at the Copper Union Art School and was a student of George Luks at the Art Students League in New York. In 1898 he moved to New Albany, married, and began his career at the Evening Post and Louisville Times. He also worked for The Courier-Journal in Louisville through the 1920s as well as at The Herald Examiner in Chicago in the 1930s.

His reputation as an Impressionist landscapist earned him a place at major American art exhibitions, including the Hoosier Salon. Plaschke was a founder of the Louisville Art Academy and was instrumental in the beginnings of the Speed Art Museum.
