Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies - Arts & Humanities
The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (B.I.S.) provides students with an outstanding multidisciplinary preparation in the Arts and Humanities, while allowing them the flexibility to pursue specific academic areas of focus aligned to their personal interests and/or future career aspirations.
The proposed program would require students to complete the same core curricular requirements as students in more traditional majors. In the upper division, students designate three unique disciplines as concentrations and earn at least 15 credits in each, 9 of which must be in the upper division. Students will be encouraged to complete internships as a part of the upper division coursework that demonstrates synthesis of their concentration choices.
Students learn to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to develop critical thinking skills; to practice creative problem solving capabilities; and to meld these acquired abilities with ethical thought and application.
The degree is an excellent foundation for entrance into graduate school – to pursue a Master’s degree in any field, including Interdisciplinary Studies – as well as a range of careers involving creative leadership and knowledge management.
