Biography
Dr. Pooser continues to explore new areas of the francophone studies, incorporating in his classes, in his research, and/or sharing with his students on a more personal basis the many insights that these experiences have provided him. In addition to France, his travels to francophone areas of the world, whether for research or for cultural enrichment and collection of materials, have thus far included stays in Guadeloupe, Martinique, Quebec, New Brunswick and French-speaking areas of Nova Scotia, Morocco, Switzerland, the Aosta Valley of Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Monaco, and Cajun areas of Louisiana.
Dr. Pooser has been active in community outreach related to international cultural connections, both on campus and off, including campus activities such as the International Banquet. Dr. Pooser has had a long-standing association with the Alliance Française de Louisville and Sister Cities of Louisville. He has been involved in the organizing and/or assisting with many events in the Kentuckiana area, such as Bastille Day picnics, Fête de la Musique celebrations, petanque or mancala tournaments, Cajun style fais-dodos, francophone film showings and arts and crafts activities.. He is also a great lover of music, film and fine food from around the world and finds great joy in sharing his growing collection of international films and music, as well as a favorite new recipe with others.
Dr. Pooser feels so very fortunate to have had the opportunity to interact with so many wonderful students in his years of teaching. Hoping to have made some small contribution toward broadening his students’ appreciation of the marvelous diversity of thought and ways of living around the world, he acknowledges with deepest appreciation how much his students have enriched and enlivened his own life. Merci de tout mon coeur!
