Biography

Carla Hermann, PhD, RN is Professor and MSN Program Director at Indiana University Southeast School of Nursing. Dr. Hermann has over 30 years of experience teaching nursing students at the baccalaureate, masters and doctoral levels. She was previously director of a PhD in nursing program at a research intensive university. She has been a Principal Investigator and co-Principal Investigator on numerous grants focused on spirituality, quality of life and symptom management in patients near the end of life. Dr. Hermann has been involved in numerous interprofessional educational endeavors. She was a co-investigator on a National Cancer Institute-funded project that designed, implemented and evaluated a comprehensive educational program for nursing, medical, social work and chaplaincy students. Her current project involves training interprofessional teams from across the United States in methods to design and implement programs to improve palliative care for individuals with cancer. Dr. Hermann’s volunteer work focuses on providing services for individuals with cancer and for hospice patients and their caregivers.
