Biography

Doyin Coker-Kolo is Professor and Coordinator of Educational Leadership and a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow. A veteran teacher and administrator, Doyin believes that the 3 facets of academics-teaching, scholarship and service should be integrated in the professional life of an educator. She has a passion for collaborative research, high impact practice for students, and interdisciplinary grant writing. Doyin considers herself a critical educator with a laser focus on equity and social justice especially in the preparation of teacher candidates and other professionals. She founded “Together We’ll Grow,” a pipeline program for recruiting minority high school students in the Teacher Cadet programs into education. Dr. Coker-Kolo’s areas of research include program and unit accreditations, Supervision and Organization of Middle Level Education, Brain Drain and Higher Education in Sub-Saharan Africa.

 Her recent publications include: “Deanship: The Art of Service and Shared Leadership.” In Hicks & Watson (Ed). Black Administrators in Higher Education: Autoethnographic Explorations and Personal Narratives, published by Hamilton Books, Inc., “The Role of African Universities in a Changing World.” (2013) published in the Journal of Third World Studies, Inc. and “The Role of Accreditation in Fostering Diversity in Teacher Preparation Programs” (2014) in Sleeter, Neal & Kumashiro (Ed). Addressing the Demographic Imperative: Recruiting, Preparing, and Retaining a Diverse and Highly Effective Teaching Force, published by Routledge. Her leadership roles with professional associations include President, Treasurer and Executive Council member for the Association of Global South Studies, Site Visitor and Councilor with the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP. She also served as board member for the Association of Middle Level Education (AMLE).
