Faculty and Staff Biographies

Elementary and secondary education was obtained in Bombay (Mumbai), India, where continued to study at the Bandra National College for four years as an undergraduate student with Physics as the major and Mathematics as a minor finishing in 1971. In March 1978, studies began at the University of Amazonas in Manaus, Brazil; the degree of Bachelor of Science with a major in Mathematics was received in 1980. The graduate coursework was completed at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1987. A master’s degree in Computer Science was received from the University of Louisville in Kentucky in December 1993.

In 1980 taught mathematics at Santa Dorotéia High School in Manaus, Brazil, Computer Science and Statistics at the Amazon Institute of Technology (1981). Data analyst and Computer programmer at the Amazonian Research Institute (1981-83,) and a faculty member in the Department of Statistics and Computer Science at the University of Amazonas (1983-88.) In 1989, an assistantship award was given by the Brazilian Ministry of Education to work on a research project in numerical analysis at the Speed Scientific School, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY. An article related to the work, co-authored with Dr. Melvin J. Maron, faculty and research advisor, was published in the January 1993 issue of the College Mathematics Journal by Mathematical Association of America. The same article due to its importance was published as well in the Resources for Teaching Linear Algebra by MAA in 1997.

Worked two years at Hanover College, Indiana, and made several innovations in the Computer Science curriculum including proposing a general computer science course specific for a liberal arts college.

Currently a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, Indiana,  During his 25 years at IU southeast was responsible for innovating and organizing computer competency requirement. Envisioned, designed, and went through the approval process of a 27-29 credit-hour Certificate in Computer Technology, whose curriculum is a subset of the Data Science program today. Organized and taught computer related major and non-major courses in undergraduate programs in Computer Science, Informatics, Data Science at IU Office of Online Education, Honors and graduate seminars in Master's degree in Interdisciplinar (MIS) Studies. Teaches, reviews, refines, studies and researches to stay very current in the field of software engineering and computational mathematics, as well as Yoga as health and exercise science.  Actively participates in community Health Fairs promoting holistic wellness.

In December of 2015 became a certified Yoga instructor from the world’s oldest Yoga ashram in Mumbai, India. Participated in several spiritual retreats performing Yoga expositions. Designed, developed and directed graduate level seminars in Computer Information Technology (CIT), Computer Ethics and Security, Artificial Intelligence versus Public Policy, Software Design for non-majors and Philosophy and Science of Yoga for MIS (Master’s in Interdisciplinary Studies) program at IU Southeast. Was member in three Master’s Thesis committees, and directed twenty-five Undergraduate and Graduate student research papers on several Interdisciplinary topics as referred to herein.

Is inspired to prepare the future generation of young adults for the new technological and health-oriented society. Believes that the compartmentalization of knowledge is a hindrance to its advancement. It is by interconnecting the subjects we achieve evolution. The human being is a very potent automated system. Continues to interact, engages with students, faculty and community, integrating Computer Science, Mathematics, Public Policy, and holistic well-being.
