Biography

Sara M. Walsh is an Associate Professor of Criminology & Criminal Justice and the Director of the Master of Interdisciplinary Studies Program at Indiana University Southeast. The central theme of her work is the interaction between law and culture and how this in turn impacts human and civil rights. She is particularly interested in fear of crime, popular culture and disparities in justice with respect to race, gender, class and sexuality. She has undertaken more than a decade of research with the Capital Jury Project and other projects exploring the death penalty and serious mental illness.  Her current work is focused on spatial justice and how fear of crime impacts policy that shapes access to public life, space and resources.
