Spreading the message about IU Southeast
Media Relations and Public Relations are an important component in IU Southeast’s marketing and community relations strategies. The Marketing & Communications staff develops press releases, responds to media requests, and finds subject matter experts for local and regional media.
Public and media relations has a different focus than marketing. Rather than zeroing in on advertising campaigns, this area works to get “earned media” through efforts promote the university’s stories to outside channels in a meaningful way.
The Office of Marketing & Communications is staffed by professionals with extensive experience in dealing with the media on a daily basis. The office works with all media, including student publications, local, and regional press. Our small staff issues press releases, organizes press conferences, and handles the University’s overall media relations.
Event Publicity
Marketing & Communications can help you publicize events and make campus-wide announcements via internal vehicles, including the video bulletin boards, internal and external emails, and social media.
The IU Southeast campus events calendar allows you to publicize your event on the University home page. Each department should have a person trained on how to add events to the calendar. You can find training information here.
Generating media coverage for your event often requires special expertise. High-profile visitors may have security concerns and reporters may have specific equipment or seating needs. Marketing & Communications regularly partners with offices across campus to ensure that these issues are addressed early in the planning stage.
For more information about planning high-profile events, contact the Manager of Special Events & Projects in the Office of University Relations.
Social Media Coverage
Social media coverage plays a vital role in the recruitment and retention of students at IU Southeast. Our office coordinates the official social media feeds for the university. Through organic and paid social media efforts, our staff uses multiple channels to share the university’s stories in line with the IU 2030 Strategic Plan. Our efforts are directed at potential and enrolled students, faculty/staff, alumni, and the public when sharing messages and event information related to campus recruitment and retention.
